Belize day 2
Unfortnately, the wind was not with us today and we were not able to do the full kite boarding course. We did eveything up until actually getting on a board. Certainly we will need to seek out instruction in CT this summer. Sarah fell into a sea urchin though. Hopefully…
Belize day 1
Aside from a rough entry into Belize City and a few unruly children who smelled of poo the flights were uneventful. Lunch was conch cerviche and dinner included red snapper and stone crab — really thick shells. Kite boarding is amazing fun.
Belize bound
Four hours of sleep and we are on our way.
Costa Rica Day 4
The tour today centered around Cano island. The weather was much calmer but butts were still sore and chaffed from the days prior. We had two snorkeling sessions amoung the reefs that surround the island. Supposedly, the under water sights are not as grand as at other locales in the…
Costa Rica Day 3
Today began at the ungodly hour of 5:30 after a full night of what one would expect a good rain forest storm to be like. We had only time to scarf some fruit and coffee before being rushed to the boat for the start of our tour. Over one hour…
Costa Rica Day 2
Our great travel agent Sarah had planned for us to travel all day today via car to our departure point for the rain forest. Aside from getting pulled over and the 2 hours of dirt roads, the majority of the 6 hours journey was uneventful. The last of three cars…
Costa Rica Day 1
The first day of our Costa Rica trip passed more or less uneventfully. There was some trepedation on my part because of the slight sickness I had acquired shortly before leaving. However, I am feeling spry enough now and we all are safely here. We met Shama after customs as…
More Humid Adventures
During our stay, most of the other tourist visiting the lodge were older Americans — older as in 60+. Our guide told us of one 90 year-old individual who wished above all else to go on the canopy walk. The normally 40 minute hike out there took him 4 hours….
We Can Now Hunt Squirrel
One of the stops on our tour of the area surrounding the lodge was an indigenous village. Unfortunately, there are no indigenous peoples that live in traditional villages any more. This village was created by request of the lodge to given tourists an idea of how these peoples used to…
Fish and Bananas, Bananas and Fish
The denizens of the rain forest eat two meals per day. They have bananas and fish for breakfast and fish and bananas for lunch. All their food can be obtained locally. Fish from the river and fruit, rice, yuca, and etc. are grown locally. They need only trade with people…
