Traveling in countries like this where the populace is generally poorer than what we see day-to-day in the US eventually makes me sad. Sad am I not for the people of these locales — I believe most of them are happy and live more simply. I lament the economic divide between my culture and theirs. So much of what we have because we believe it is crucial to life is in actuality wasteful and unnecessary. These attachments create a rift between us and the natural world and us and other humans. At the same time, it seems very difficult to live in the US without certain things. I do not yet know if that is a truth or a delusion.
